Firaxis Games has responded to mixed feedback following the early access launch of Civilization VII with a heartfelt message to fans.
The development team expressed their gratitude and shared plans for upcoming updates, emphasizing how crucial player feedback has been in shaping the game’s future. They acknowledged input from both longtime fans and newcomers, showing a clear commitment to improving the experience for everyone.
In their message, Firaxis outlined three key areas they’re focusing on for future updates:
- User Interface (UI) Improvements:
The team admitted the current UI has room for improvement, particularly in making interactions more intuitive, enhancing map readability, and fixing formatting issues. While it may take time to process all the feedback, they’re determined to get these changes right and promised to share more details as they become available. - Community-Requested Features:
Firaxis is actively considering several features players have asked for, which will be added in free updates. These include:- Adding teams in multiplayer games.
- Allowing full player counts in multiplayer across all three Ages by refining the Distant Lands system.
- Letting players choose both the starting and ending Age.
- Introducing a wider variety of map types.
- Enabling customization for city and religion names.
- Adding hotseat multiplayer support.
- Quality-of-Life Improvements in Patch 1.1.0:
Scheduled for release in March, this patch will bring numerous fixes and adjustments, including:- Further UI enhancements.
- Ongoing AI balance improvements.
- Tweaks to diplomacy and crisis management.
- Various bug fixes.
Civilization VII is currently in Early Access on PC and will be gradually released on other platforms, including PS4, PS5, Xbox Series S|X, and Nintendo Switch, on February 11, 2025.
