The LEGO Super Mario Kart has been announced by Nintendo, and here’s our first look at six LEGO sets based on the franchise.
The aforementioned six LEGO Super Mario Kart sets were unveiled at Gamescom 2024, and they are set to be available starting January 1, 2025. Although the sets don’t include mini figures, the new additions to the LEGO Super Mario lineup come with some unique features. A majority of these LEGO sets will be widely available across both retail and online store. However, the LEGO Mario Kart Donkey Kong & DK Jumbo set will be a retail exclusive and available only through select partners.
Instead of including mini figures or electronic components, the six LEGO Mario Kart sets can be combined with the electronic Mario, Luigi, and Peach figures, and then offer digital game content. The sets also come with built-in characters in their karts, and can, therefore, be played independently. The first wave of this collaboration features characters like Blue Yoshi, Toad, Lemmy, Donkey Kong, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Baby Peach, and various mechanic Toads.

The digital play features allow electronic figures to be placed in the karts, triggering sound effects like race start, honking, drifting, and gliding. The figures can also scan boxes, earning additional coins instead of power-ups. Analog gameplay includes placing banana peels and launching shells using a disc shooter system. The LEGO Mario Kart sets appear to include stickers for the first time, as seen in the LEGO Mario Kart Baby Peach & Grand Prix set. The fictional sponsor logos and rim decorations in this set are likely sticker-based. However, this may change prior to release.
