Fortnite Disables Peacemaker Dance Emote Over Symbolism Concerns

by Ali Haider

Epic Games has disabled the Peaceful Hips emote, part of Fortnite’s collaboration with DC’s Peacemaker, following concerns that the dance may resemble a problematic symbol. The emote, which was modeled after Peacemaker’s Season 2 intro dance, is no longer usable in-game while Epic investigates the situation with its content partners.

In a statement shared on social media, Epic said, “We’re disabling the Peaceful Hips Emote in Fortnite as we inquire into our partner’s creative intentions in this collab emote. Assuming it’s not coming back, we’ll issue refunds in the next few days. Sorry folks.” The company cited the possibility of unintended symbolism, particularly theories from fans suggesting the dance sequence could resemble a swastika when viewed from certain angles. This speculation gained traction because of recent Peacemaker Season 2 episodes.

Community reaction has been sharply divided. Critics of the decision argue the removal is an overreaction to unconfirmed speculation. Many expressed frustration about losing paid content, while others questioned Epic’s inconsistent standards, pointing out that other controversial collaborations remain in Fortnite. Some players also admitted they did not see any resemblance at all.

Supporters of Epic’s decision counter that, even if unintentional, allowing an emote that could be associated with hate symbols would create risks for the game’s reputation. A portion of fans also suggested that Warner Bros. and Epic may have failed to communicate properly about the thematic direction of Peacemaker Season 2, which may have avoided the issue altogether.

Players have proposed alternative solutions, including replacing the disabled emote with the Season 1 intro dance, which many consider more iconic and less prone to misinterpretation. Others have called for compensation beyond refunds, such as offering replacement emotes.

Overall, the removal has left the Fortnite community frustrated but also reflective about how cultural context can affect collaborations. While some see Epic’s actions as being overly cautious, others recognize the company’s reluctance to risk featuring even potentially problematic imagery in its game. As of now, Epic has not disclosed whether the Peaceful Hips emote will return in any form.
