Microsoft has officially confirmed that Forza Horizon 6 will also make its way to PlayStation 5 after its initial launch on Xbox consoles and PC in 2026. The announcement was made through the official Xbox blog, where the company emphasized the growing demand for the franchise on other platforms.

“Forza Horizon 6 will launch first on Xbox consoles and PC in 2026. With the excitement for this franchise on other platforms, Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios are also working together to bring Forza Horizon 6 to PlayStation 5 post-launch,” the statement read.

The news follows the official reveal of Forza Horizon 6 during the Xbox Tokyo Game Show 2025 broadcast, where Playground Games confirmed Japan as the long-requested setting. A cinematic teaser highlighted diverse landscapes, from bustling cities to serene countryside, offering a glimpse of the vast open world under development.

Speaking with Editor-in-Chief Joe Skrebels, Art Director Don Arceta explained that Japan was chosen due to overwhelming fan demand and the country’s strong automotive culture, which encompasses history, motorsport, music, and fashion. He noted that the decision also builds upon the studio’s prior technical achievements, such as designing complex elevated road systems in the Forza Horizon 5 Hot Wheels expansion.

Cultural Consultant Kyoko Yamashita further emphasized that Japan’s distinctive blend of modernity and tradition makes it a natural fit. She revealed that the development team conducted extensive fieldwork, paying close attention to authentic details including neighborhood layouts, etiquette, and ambient soundscapes. Yamashita stressed the importance of creating a “lived-in world” that avoids stereotypes while resonating with both Japanese and international players.

Playground Games confirmed that the map will not be a direct one-to-one recreation of Japan but rather a creative blend of iconic locations. Among the highlights are Mount Fuji and Tokyo City, with the latter described as one of the most detailed environments the studio has ever created. Seasonal changes will also return, playing a central role in gameplay. Players can expect immersive transformations tied to Japan’s culture, such as cherry blossom season, with shifts that impact both visual aesthetics and world activity.

The game is also designed to celebrate the diversity of Japanese car culture, from drift racing and precision motorsport to the unique appeal of Kei cars and the passion for customization. This focus aims to capture the broad spectrum of experiences that have made Japan a legendary automotive hub.

More updates, including a full gameplay reveal, are scheduled for early 2026. With cross-platform expansion and a deeply researched cultural setting, Forza Horizon 6 appears poised to deliver one of the most ambitious entries in the series to date.
