FromSoftware has officially postponed the release of Patch 1.02 for Elden Ring Nightreign, originally scheduled for July 30, due to a tsunami warning following a recent earthquake near the Kamchatka Peninsula. The update, along with the next Everdark Sovereign cycle, will now launch on July 31, 2025, pending further developments related to safety conditions in Japan.
The announcement was made through the official Elden Ring Twitter account, where the studio confirmed the delay as a precaution. The message stated, “Due to the tsunami warning following the earthquake near the Kamchatka Peninsula, we have decided to postpone the distribution of the ‘ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN’ Patch 1.02, which was scheduled for today to tomorrow, July 31 (Thursday) after 10:00 CEST | 1:00 PDT.” The developers also noted that the next phase of the Everdark Sovereign, previously set to begin at 03:00 CEST | 18:00 PDT on July 30, would be delayed until the patch is deployed.
Patch 1.02 introduces significant new content to Nightreign, including the anticipated “Duo Expeditions” mode. This new cooperative feature allows two players to confront the terrors of the night as a unified pair. Alongside gameplay additions, the patch includes several quality-of-life enhancements, such as improved UI filtering for relics, offering players greater control over their inventory management.
The Everdark Sovereign cycle scheduled to begin on July 31 will feature enhanced versions of some of the most formidable enemies in the game: Nightlords Tricephalos, Augur, Equilibrious Beast, and Fissure in the Fog. According to prior teasers, these adversaries will unleash even darker powers across Limveld, the haunting realm that serves as the setting for this roguelike spin-off.
Originally launched on May 30, 2025, Elden Ring Nightreign is a separate title from the base game, blending action survival mechanics with a co-op and session-based roguelike design. Players, known as Nightfarers, must endure escalating threats while navigating shifting environments that grow more hostile with each cycle. The game debuted across all major platforms and quickly gained commercial traction, topping digital storefronts shortly after release.
Earlier this month, FromSoftware and Bandai Namco confirmed that Nightreign has shipped over five million units worldwide. Meanwhile, the previously released Shadow of the Erdtree expansion for the original Elden Ring has now surpassed 10 million units shipped globally, further solidifying the franchise’s commercial success.
Though the unexpected delay may disrupt immediate plans for players, the developers expressed appreciation for fans’ understanding. The studio’s decision prioritizes safety, and the brief postponement ensures that the full rollout of the update and new cycle can proceed without interruption once conditions allow.
