Frostpunk 2 Hotfix 1.4.2 Resolves Interface Bugs, Gameplay Issues, and Object Limit Crashes

by Ali Haider

11 bit studios has deployed Hotfix 1.4.2 for Frostpunk 2, introducing a series of important fixes and technical improvements based on community feedback. This latest patch focuses on resolving user interface inconsistencies, gameplay progression issues, and visual performance problems across platforms. It also introduces targeted fixes for controller navigation, overlay responsiveness, and rare UI softlocks that could disrupt the player experience.

One of the most significant updates in this hotfix addresses object limit crashes, a problem affecting players with extremely large cities. The developers have shared a temporary workaround that allows users to manually raise the engine’s object limit to restore affected save files. While this fix is intended as a last resort, it reflects 11 bit studios’ ongoing commitment to stability and optimization for both high- and low-end systems.

Exceeding Object Limit Crashes

A major addition to this hotfix is guidance for users encountering UObject limit crashes, typically affecting extremely large and complex city builds. This issue stems from the game engine’s internal object cap being exceeded, causing crashes and failed loads.

Temporary Workaround (Advanced Users Only):

  1. Navigate to your local AppData/Frostpunk 2 directory.
  2. Locate and open the Engine.ini file.
  3. Add the following lines to the file:
    [/Script/Engine.GarbageCollectionSettings]
    gc.MaxObjectsInEditor=100000000
    gc.MaxObjectsInGame=100000000
  4. Save the file and relaunch the game.
  5. Attempt to load your previously crashing save file.

Warning:
Raising the object limit may cause performance issues or instability, especially on lower-end PCs. 11 bit studios recommends applying this fix only if the crash message explicitly references the object limit and advises users to monitor memory usage closely.

Frostpunk 2 is a large-scale city-building and survival strategy game from 11 bit studios, set thirty years after the events of the original Frostpunk. As the Steward of New London, players must navigate political conflicts, manage ideologically divided factions, and balance resource production with moral decisions that shape the future of humanity.

Originally launched on PC (Windows and macOS) on September 20, 2024, the title later arrived on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on September 18, 2025.
