HoYoverse has announced that Genshin Impact will discontinue support and updates for the PlayStation 4 in 2026, citing hardware limitations and storage constraints as the primary reasons. While PS5 and other platforms will continue to receive updates, the transition marks the end of an era for players who first experienced the game on Sony’s last-generation console.
The company outlined a phased approach to retiring the game on PS4, beginning with its removal from the PlayStation Store on September 10, 2025. Players who have already downloaded the game will retain access and can re-download it from their library, but new players will no longer be able to obtain it. The next step comes on February 25, 2026, when all in-game purchases for PS4 will be removed from both the store and the in-game shop. Finally, on April 8, 2026, HoYoverse will cease all update support for PS4, preventing players from logging into the game on the platform.
To help ease the transition, the developer is allowing players to bind other login methods, ensuring progress can be carried over to PS5 or other supported devices. This process will become mandatory starting December 17, 2025, when periodic prompts will appear in the PS4 version of the game.
Alongside this announcement, HoYoverse also revealed plans to raise minimum and recommended system specifications for Android, iOS, and PC starting with the upcoming “Song of the Welkin Moon” version. These changes are aimed at improving performance and supporting future content updates. Devices that do not meet the updated requirements may still run the game, but performance issues such as instability and frame rate drops could occur.
The updated specifications require at least a Snapdragon 660 or Helio G88 processor on Android, an A11 Bionic chip for iOS devices, and a 6th-generation Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen equivalent on PC. Recommended specs are significantly higher, particularly for smooth gameplay on upcoming updates.
Genshin Impact originally launched in 2020 for PS4, PC, and mobile devices, later arriving on PS5 in 2021 and Xbox Series X|S in 2024. The game remains one of the most successful free-to-play titles globally, thanks to its ongoing live service model, extensive world-building, and frequent updates.
Players currently on PS4 are encouraged to migrate to PS5 or other platforms to continue enjoying future content without interruption.
