It was surpassed only by Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest entry in a series that is known for its popularity in Japan.
It’s worth highlighting that despite being released on October 2, 2025, Ghost of Yotei has managed to take a spot in the top 30 best selling physical games in Japan between the period of January 5, 2026, and January 11, 2026. It was the only PS5 title in a list filled with Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 games.
Furthermore, according to sales data enthusiast pierre485_, Ghost of Yotei has achieved the milestone of more than 200,000 copies sold. This includes both physical and digital versions of the game.
In October, 2025, Ghost of Yotei achieved the fifth-largest PS5 launch in Japan, with 120,196 physical units sold. Its strong start makes it Sony Interactive Entertainment’s most successful first-party launch in Japan since Gran Turismo 7. Later in November, in its financial results for the second quarter of fiscal year 2025, the company revealed that Ghost of Yotei sold 3.3 million copies as of November 2, 2025, within its first 32 days on the market.
Ghost of Yotei is a standalone sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, and is set in 1603 in Ezo, Japan. The story follows Atsu, an onna-musha seeking vengeance against the Yōtei Six, a group responsible for her family’s massacre sixteen years earlier. The sequel continues Sucker Punch Productions’ tradition of blending historical authenticity with cinematic storytelling, earning generally positive reviews from critics upon release. The game is currently available exclusively for PlayStation 5.
