Sucker Punch Productions’ upcoming action-adventure title, Ghost of Yotei, is shaping up to be one of the most visually striking PlayStation exclusives of 2025. Scheduled to launch on October 2, the standalone sequel to Ghost of Tsushima introduces a range of display options designed to take advantage of both the PlayStation 5 and the upgraded PlayStation 5 Pro hardware.
On the standard PlayStation 5, players can choose between three display modes. Quality mode delivers native 2160p resolution at 30 frames per second, ensuring a crisp and cinematic presentation. Performance mode targets 60fps, though resolution drops dynamically between 1440p and 1080p to maintain smooth gameplay. A third option, Ray-Tracing mode, locks gameplay to 30fps while enhancing global lighting, particularly in shadowed areas and indoor environments where ambient occlusion plays a larger role.
The PlayStation 5 Pro includes all three of these options but goes further with a hardware-exclusive Ray-Tracing Pro mode. This setting enhances the lighting system while targeting 60fps, relying on Sony’s PSSR upscaling to maintain visual clarity. Resolution in this mode typically ranges from 1440p down to 1080p, but the benefit of both ray-traced lighting and higher frame rates makes it an appealing choice for players seeking a balance of fidelity and performance.
In terms of stability, both versions hold up impressively well. The PS5 delivers consistent results in Quality and Ray-Tracing modes, though slight dips may occur in Performance mode. These fluctuations are considered minor and rarely noticeable during play. On the PS5 Pro, the experience is smoother overall, with higher baseline resolutions and the additional Pro-exclusive mode demonstrating the engine’s scalability.
The strong technical performance of Ghost of Yotei highlights the efficiency of Sucker Punch’s proprietary technology. Building on the foundation of Ghost of Tsushima, the studio has delivered an engine that runs smoothly across both PS5 and PS5 Pro, ensuring players can enjoy a refined experience no matter which console they own. With its mix of new display options, particularly the Ray-Tracing Pro mode, the game seems well positioned to showcase the strengths of Sony’s latest hardware.
