Ghost of Yotei has quickly risen to the top of global pre-order charts, cementing its place as one of the most highly anticipated PlayStation exclusives of the year. The upcoming action-adventure title from Sucker Punch Productions is not due until October 2, yet it already dominates rankings in multiple regions, including the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, France, Germany, Poland, Portugal, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and South Korea.
The momentum is fueled by a strong reception from critics, who have praised the sequel’s technical advancements and design. At present, Ghost of Yotei holds an average score of 87 on Metacritic and 88 on OpenCritic. These numbers surpass the original Ghost of Tsushima, which launched in 2020 with an 83 on Metacritic and 84 on OpenCritic. The Director’s Cut of Tsushima later matched an 87 on Metacritic, but the sequel still edges ahead with its early reviews.
Beyond critical acclaim, the game has also received detailed technical breakdowns that showcase its display modes across PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro. On the standard console, players can expect three primary options: a Quality mode offering native 2160p at 30fps, a Performance mode that targets 60fps with resolution scaling between 1440p and 1080p, and a Ray-Tracing mode fixed at 30fps with enhanced global lighting. Each choice offers a different way to experience the world, whether through cinematic presentation or smoother gameplay.
The upgraded PlayStation 5 Pro expands these features with an exclusive Ray-Tracing Pro mode. This option pushes for 60fps while enhancing lighting effects, using Sony’s PSSR upscaling technology to preserve visual sharpness. While the resolution ranges dynamically from 1440p to 1080p, the blend of ray-traced lighting and higher frame rates makes it a compelling alternative for players who want both performance and fidelity.
Performance stability has also been a point of focus. On the PlayStation 5, Quality and Ray-Tracing modes deliver steady results, with only minor dips occurring during Performance mode. The Pro model shows stronger overall consistency, benefiting from its additional processing headroom and specialized rendering mode.
Ghost of Yotei, developed by Sucker Punch Productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, is set to release exclusively for PlayStation 5 on October 2, 2025.
