The rumored unannounced game from God of War developer Santa Monica Studio is allegedly planned for release in the year 2027.

Known insider Nate the Hate took to Twitter/X to respond to a post seeking clarification on Santa Monica Studio having multiple projects in development. In response, Nate said that God of War (2018) director Cory Barlog is working on his own game that is separate from the recently announced God of War trilogy remake, and that it remains unannounced. He added that, unless a major delay happens, the game is planned for release in the year 2027.

When asked whether Barlog’s project is a new God of War game, Nate said that he’ll speak on this matter when he can. He expects it to be announced sometime around the summer period.

Recently, insider shinobi602 took to the Reset Era forums to respond to a fellow member who asked him whether the recently announced God of War trilogy remake is the same project God of War (2018) director Cory Barlog is rumored to be working on. He clarified that they’re two different games. Given the quarter Santa Monica Studio is targeting for the unannounced title helmed by Cory Barlog, he believes it will be announced this year. He expects it to be revealed at the May, 2026, State of Play presentation or Summer Games Fest 2026. According to him, if the game doesn’t get announced by then, it will likely be because the development team pushed the release out further or ended up making the reveal-to-release window shorter.

Back in September, 2025, during an episode of the Insider Gaming podcast, co-host Tom Henderson stated that a new mainline God of War game is currently in development, which will have Kratos wielding a curved Egyptian sword that’s something along the lines of the scimitar used by the prince in the Prince of Persia series.
