The alleged God of War game that is said to be set in the Greek mythology is rumored to have had its release postponed to the year 2026.
During the latest episode of the Last of the Nintendogs podcast, co-host Jeff Grubb, who is known for his inside sources within the game industry, has revealed that the release of the unannounced Greek God of War project has been pushed into 2026. It looks like Sony Interactive Entertainment will be relying entirely on Sucker Punch Productions’ Ghost of Yotei for its first-party lineup during the Fall and holiday period.

Fellow insider Tom Henderson had recently said that the rumored God of War spinoff features a 2.5D Metroidvania-style format and appears to be a smaller, side-project that explores series protagonist Kratos’ early years in ancient Greece.
Another report described it as a game that combines elements from God of War and Blasphemous. It also claimed that the unannounced God of War title is set in Greece and takes place before Kratos becomes a god, further hinting that it serves as a narrative prequel. One of the major changes is that Kratos’ brother, Deimos, is expected to return in this story, marking his first prominent appearance since God of War: Ghost of Sparta. The game is reportedly under the supervision of Santa Monica Studio, the developers of the mainline series, with potential involvement from Mega Cat Studios, known for Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into The Pit.
The unannounced spin-off was first hinted at in March, 2025, when Grubb stated that a new God of War project unrelated to the rumored remastered trilogy was in development. He suggested that the game will explore a younger Kratos’ relationship with his father, Zeus, thereby positioning it as a prequel set during the Greek saga rather than the more recent Norse arc.
