Single-Player Titles God Of War Ragnarok & Until Dawn Will Require PSN Account On PC

Sony Interactive Entertainment’s upcoming single-player PC games like God of War Ragnarok and Until Dawn will require a PSN account.

The Steam store page for the PC versions of God of War Ragnarok and Until Dawn state that they require a PSN account in order for them to be playable, despite both being single-player, narrative-driven games that don’t have any online component. This suggests that all future PC titles from PlayStation, regardless of whether they are multiplayer titles, will require users to link their Steam accounts with their PSN IDs.

Furthermore, this means that both God of War Ragnarok and Until Dawn will not be available across Steam regions that are not supported by PlayStation Network. The same is true for Sony Interactive Entertainment titles available on Epic Games Store.

This decision will likely come as a disappointment to the developers behind both titles, as they would undoubtedly want their game to be played by a wider audience. The recently released PC version of Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut also requires a PSN account, but only for its multiplayer component, and the game’s single-player story mode can still be played without it. It appears that Sony Interactive Entertainment is looking to boost its PSN Monthly Active Users statistics by making it mandatory for PC users who plays its games to join its ecosystem.

Recently, Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Studios had expressed that the studio wants the game to be available worldwide on Steam, but there are restrictions in place from PlayStation, not Valve, that prevent it from happening. The studio’s CEO Johan Pilestedt took to the game’s Discord server to explain that the development team had no idea about the recent regional restriction that has been applied to the Steam version.

The PC version of God of War Ragnarok is set for release on September 19, 2024.
