GOG appears to be teasing potential re-releases of Konami’s survival horror game, Silent Hill, and Xbox Game Studios’ Halo: Combat Evolved.
For those unaware, GOG maintains a Dreamlist of games voted by users as candidates for re-release on the digital platform. Permission is then sought from the publisher/developer to allow the top picks of these older Windows PC games to be made available DRM-free on GOG with Windows 10 and Windows 11 support. In addition, the re-releases tend to receive some modern features, such as controller mapping, cloud saves etc.

The GOG Classic Vault YouTube channel is now teasing re-releases for both Halo: Combat Evolved and the original Silent Hill. Text appearing in the teaser for the latter reads, “This game simply helped shape me in the person I am today…”, followed by “It still brings so many fond memories of hanging with my siblings late at night, getting scared out of minds.” Similarly, the text appearing in the Halo: Combat Evolved teaser reads, “Had lots of fun playing multiplayer with a bunch of friends on this, we made up our own thing and played king of the hill haha. The story is very rich, also, but long, worth playing through at least once and having it on GOG would make it more available to everyone.”
It’s worth noting that while Halo: Combat Evolved was made available for PC, Silent Hill 1 never received a PC port. As such, if it does end up on GOG, it would essentially be a brand new port of the PS1 version.
Halo: Combat Evolved, originally released in 2001, is a first-person shooter developed by Bungie and published by Microsoft Game Studios for the original Xbox console. The game was later made available for Windows and Mac OS X in 2003, and eventually re-released as a downloadable title for the Xbox 360 under the Xbox Originals label. Set in the 26th century, the game puts players in the armor of Master Chief, a genetically augmented supersoldier, who is aided by the AI companion Cortana. Together, they battle alien forces while exploring the mysteries of Halo, a massive ring-shaped artificial world.
Silent Hill, released in 1999 for the PlayStation, is a survival horror title developed by Team Silent, a division of Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo, and published by Konami. As the first entry in the Silent Hill series, the game features third-person gameplay with 3D environments rendered in real-time. To work around hardware limitations, developers used fog and darkness to obscure visuals and reduce graphical pop-in, a technique that unintentionally enhanced the eerie and suspenseful atmosphere. In contrast to many earlier survival horror games that starred combat-trained protagonists, Silent Hill featured a lead character with no prior training to deal with his situation.
