Grime II Launches on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S

by Greg Martin

Grime II, the follow-up to the 2021 action-adventure metroidvania, is now available across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Published by Kwalee and developed by Clover Bite, the game launches at $27.99, €26.99, and £20.99, with a 15% discount offered during its first two weeks on sale.

The sequel builds on the unsettling tone of the original, introducing players to an entirely new setting filled with unusual environments and hostile encounters. According to the developers, this new world leans further into the series’ distinct aesthetic, with locations designed to feel both alien and lived in. A newly released launch trailer highlights these areas alongside updates to combat systems and player abilities.

At its core, Grime II continues the series’ focus on absorbing enemies and turning them into tools for combat and exploration. Players take on the role of a Formless entity capable of mimicking defeated foes, using their abilities to adapt to different situations. These transformations can be used offensively or to uncover hidden paths throughout the game world.

Combat has also been expanded with new mechanics that integrate environmental interactions more directly into encounters. Players can use surroundings to gain an advantage in battle, though enemies are able to do the same. Additional systems, such as parrying and grappling, allow for more reactive play, giving players options to counter attacks or pull enemies in for absorption.

The world itself is presented as a network of interconnected locations, each featuring its own visual identity and inhabitants. From areas constructed out of unconventional materials to regions shaped by distinct cultures, the game aims to emphasize exploration alongside its combat systems.

With its release now live, Grime II marks Clover Bite’s return to the metroidvania space, expanding on the mechanics and themes that defined the original while introducing new systems intended to deepen both combat and exploration.
