A remaster of Rockstar Games’ open world action game, GTA IV, is currently in development for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, based on a new rumor.
Tez2, known insider on titles developed at Rockstar Games, took to the GTAForums to share that someone at the studio had hinted to him about a remaster of GTA IV being in development. Based on his estimate, it should have been in the works for around a year now.

According to the insider, we may end up seeing GTA IV remastered receive an official announcement later this year in 2025. He also believes that this is one of the reasons why the LCPP mod for the PC version of GTA IV was taken down. As per him, if Rockstar Games still follows its plan laid out from the days of the pandemic, it will also release a remastered version of Max Payne 3 after the GTA IV remaster. He mentioned that this may also lead to an opportunity for the company to do a bundle or a Definitive Edition, including the upcoming Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes and the Max Payne 3 remaster.
Back in July, 2022, the same insider had claimed that a remaster for both GTA IV and RDR was on the table a few years ago, but the publisher had decided to pull the plug on both projects. He had cited Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: Definitive Edition’s poor reception from the media and gaming community as a possible reason behind the cancellation. However, it now appears that, at the very least, the GTA IV remaster project is back in active development.
As for the Max Payne 1 & 2 remake, Remedy Entertainment CEO Tero Virtala recently shared that the project has made great progress and remains in full production. In Q1, 2025, the development the team had advanced steadily toward major development stages in several critical areas, working alongside the game’s publisher, Rockstar Games.
