Rockstar Games’ GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition has received a new update that draws from the graphical upgrades initially introduced in the mobile edition, and if you’re wondering how it compares to the original, read ahead.
Patch 1.007 for GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition brings back various visual elements from the original games, including ambient and volumetric clouds that enhance the sky visuals, albeit with a slightly less dense effect in San Andreas. The update also resolves lighting inconsistencies, specifically in desert areas, ensuring each region retains its unique atmosphere. Classic lighting options and ambient effects are now available on both PC and consoles.
As seen in the video above, a side by side comparison between the original and updated version of GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition shows that the latter has received a handful of upgrades, and more closely follows the aesthetic of the original PS2 titles.
The updated version of GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition has received changes to its lighting system. It features a brand new skybox as well as birds, which are absent from the original version. Close attention has also been paid to preserving the atmosphere and color tone in the PS2 titles. The distant fog from the PS2 games has also found its way back into the PC and console versions.
In addition, the water and texture work has been altered, and now looks more consistent with the PS2 version. Some of the low quality AI upscaled textures present in the original have also been fixed in update 1.007. An example can be seen in the screenshots below.
