An old GTA VI leak from 2023 has gained credibility years later after an official statement from developer Rockstar Games.
Rockstar Games has officially confirmed the authenticity of a major GTA VI leak from October, 2023, (via Reddit), lending new credibility to old story and gameplay details that first emerged on social media. The confirmation was shared in a statement to IGN, which the company highlighted to point to its zero tolerance approach to leaks.
The leak also appears to be in line with information later shown or implied in official GTA VI trailers. Roughly a month before the leak surfaced, a user on Reddit posted detailed claims about the game’s plot and gameplay. At the time, the post was largely dismissed as non-credible. However, it included the key detail of Jason picking up Lucia from prison following her release on probation.
The Reddit post also outlined Lucia’s backstory, claiming she had a baby whom she abandoned at a delicatessen before committing a bank robbery that led to her arrest. According to the post, this event occurs only in a flashback cutscene, with no children appearing in gameplay. The fate of the baby was remains unkown. After serving time, Lucia is released and reunited with Jason, with the two eventually becoming romantically involved while planning criminal jobs together, many of which are allegedly organized from a nightclub known as “Vault.”
Additional claims included details about the opening mission, where players control Jason as he tracks a plane carrying a Russian drug dealer, leading to a failed drug heist and a follow-up underwater recovery mission. The leak also described new gameplay mechanics, such as one inspired by Red Dead Redemption 2’s dead-eye aiming system, one for detecting threats and valuable items, and one for searching places.
In its statement, Rockstar reiterated its long-standing zero-tolerance policy toward internal information leaks. The company revealed that it dismissed an employee in the United States in November, 2023, in connection with the aforementioned GTA VI leak. It also confirmed the termination of another employee in India in November, 2025, for a separate leak-related incident. Additionally, Rockstar disclosed that an employee based in Lincoln, UK, was dismissed in April, 2025, after allegedly sharing confidential information regarding the game with a third party, who then published the material on social media.
