Guerrilla Reveals Horizon Hunters Gathering Co-op Game

by Greg Martin

Guerrilla has officially unveiled Horizon Hunters Gathering, a new cooperative action game set in the Horizon universe that brings three-player team-based hunting to PlayStation 5 and PC.

Designed as a tactical, skill-driven co-op experience, Horizon Hunters Gathering places players in squads of up to three Hunters tasked with defending a world threatened by deadly machines. Guerrilla says combat builds on the precise, methodical foundations of the mainline Horizon games while adding the unpredictability and coordination demands of multiplayer play.

At launch, the game will feature challenging, replayable hunts as its core structure. Two modes were revealed alongside the announcement. Machine Incursion is a high-intensity scenario where waves of machines emerge from underground gateways, culminating in a powerful boss encounter. Cauldron Descent offers a longer, multi-stage challenge built around procedurally shifting rooms, combining heavy combat encounters with optional paths and hidden doors that can reward teams willing to take additional risks.

Both modes will be playable during an upcoming closed playtest accessible through the PlayStation Beta Program on PS5 and PC. Guerrilla states that this initial test will be small in scale and focused on gathering player feedback.

Players will choose from a roster of distinct Hunters, each built around specific melee or ranged playstyles and weapon types. On top of character selection, players can assign Hunter roles that interact with a rogue-lite perk system, allowing teams to shape builds that complement individual preferences and group strategies.

Guerrilla also confirmed that Horizon Hunters Gathering includes a narrative campaign featuring new characters, mysteries, and threats. The studio describes the story as fully canon within the Horizon universe and plans to continue expanding it beyond launch, though detailed plot information has not yet been shared.

Missions will take place across a variety of environments, each designed to offer different challenges and tactical considerations. Between hunts, players return to a central social space known as Hunters Gathering, where they can customize their characters, upgrade equipment, visit vendors, and form parties for upcoming missions.

The first closed playtest is scheduled to begin toward the end of February. Interested players can register through the PlayStation Beta Program and indicate interest in future tests on both PS5 and PC. Guerrilla confirmed that the game supports cross-play between platforms, as well as cross-progression when using the same PlayStation account.

Guerrilla plans to share regular development updates and additional playtest opportunities in the coming months as Horizon Hunters Gathering moves further into production.
