A new report suggests that the Halo franchise may soon make its long-awaited debut on PlayStation 5, marking a historic moment for one of Microsoft’s most iconic gaming properties. According to reliable industry insiders, including content creator Rebs Gaming and dataminer Grunt API, at least one upcoming Halo title is in development with full PlayStation compatibility, and its official reveal is expected to take place during the Halo World Championship on October 24, 2025.
Grunt API, a well-known dataminer with a track record for accurately uncovering Halo-related information, earlier found references to a new Halo project listed on Microsoft’s Xbox API. What makes this discovery significant is that the API explicitly includes compatibility data for PlayStation systems. The game is also connected to PlayFab, Microsoft’s cross-platform backend service used for features such as multiplayer matchmaking, cloud saves, and player progression—further strengthening the theory that this Halo release will feature a robust online component.
In his video, Rebs Gaming explained that Grunt API’s findings indicate not just one, but possibly two Halo entries featuring PlayStation support. The dataminer’s research identified one entry as a beta version and the other as a full release, though the relationship between the two remains unclear. Grunt API speculated that the beta might be tied to Project Eker, a rumored multiplayer-focused Halo spin-off currently under development. Given the inclusion of PlayFab services, both listings appear to involve online multiplayer functionality, potentially allowing for cross-play between Xbox, PC, and PlayStation platforms.
Grunt API previously gained credibility after correctly predicting the surprise multiplayer launch of Halo Infinite in November 2021, as well as leaking early details about Project Eker. His latest findings, therefore, carry substantial weight within the Halo community. Rebs Gaming added that while there is currently no evidence of a Nintendo Switch version, PlayStation 5 compatibility appears fully verified in the backend listings.
The timing of this discovery aligns with official confirmation that Halo Studios will showcase multiple new projects during the upcoming Halo World Championship, which begins on Friday, October 24. According to Microsoft, the presentation will feature a major reveal during the event’s main stage, followed by a more detailed developer panel at the community stage. Though the company has yet to specify what will be shown, many now expect this to be the platform for the long-rumored Halo announcement.
As of now, Microsoft has not issued an official statement regarding the rumor, nor has it confirmed whether the upcoming Halo project will be a new mainline entry or a spin-off. Nonetheless, anticipation within the Halo fanbase continues to build as the championship event approaches.
