Hideo Kojima Outlines Next Phase for Physint and OD

by Salal Awan

Hideo Kojima has shared a detailed update on the future direction of Kojima Productions, offering insight into several ongoing and upcoming projects, including Physint and OD. The message was posted on X as part of a New Year statement, outlining the studio’s priorities as it enters what Kojima describes as its next major phase of development.

In his message, Kojima confirmed that 2026 will mark the beginning of the “Second Phase” for Kojima Productions, which will ultimately lead into a longer-term “Third Phase.” He explained that, unlike the previous year, the focus will shift away from constant travel and toward establishing stronger foundations for ongoing work. According to Kojima, “This year will be about staying grounded and laying solid foundations.”

Development on the horror title OD is continuing, with Kojima stating that the team will also begin moving forward more actively on Physint, an espionage action project. He noted that preparations for Physint will include casting actors, scanning, and performance capture shoots, indicating that the project is transitioning into a more tangible production stage after its earlier conceptual reveal.

Kojima also confirmed that work is progressing on multiple Death Stranding adaptations. These include the previously announced live-action film as well as animation projects, covering both a movie and a series. In addition, Kojima mentioned that the studio is preparing several events throughout the year, though details will be shared only after plans are finalized.

The message also carried personal significance, as Kojima noted that this year marks his 40th anniversary in the game industry, tracing his career back to 1986. He thanked fans for their continued support of Kojima Productions and expressed optimism for the year ahead.

Physint, described by Kojima as a next-generation action espionage project, is being developed in collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment. The project has been positioned as a hybrid experience that blurs the line between video games and film, using advanced production techniques and performance capture. It was first revealed publicly in January 2024 and remains in early development, with no confirmed release window.

OD, meanwhile, represents Kojima’s experimental approach to horror. The project is being developed with Xbox Game Studios and is positioned as a unique exploration of fear, leveraging modern technology and an unconventional structure. While details remain limited, Kojima’s latest update confirms that active development is ongoing despite previous delays.

Together, these updates suggest that Kojima Productions is entering a more production-focused period, balancing long-term ambition with steady progress across multiple high-profile projects.
