Hideo Kojima Shares New Information on OD Knock and Physint

Hideo Kojima has offered fresh details on two of his most anticipated projects, OD Knock and Physint, during a new interview with Ananweb JP. Speaking candidly, Kojima described both titles as significant creative undertakings and outlined the philosophical and structural ideas guiding their development. The remarks come shortly after the tenth anniversary celebration of Kojima Productions, where OD Knock and additional initiatives were highlighted during the Beyond The Strand event.

Reflecting on OD Knock, Kojima acknowledged that early impressions may lead audiences to view it as a conventional horror experience, but he emphasized that it represents an attempt to invent something structurally new. He stated, “Based on the trailer, it might look like a typical horror game, but it’s something never before seen. I can’t say yet what that is, and I don’t know if it will even succeed.” Kojima explained that although his past works introduced unusual concepts, their fundamental systems remained familiar. With OD Knock, however, the team is attempting to shift the service model itself. He noted that the trailer contains embedded hints, encouraging viewers to think deeply about what the project is trying to achieve.

Kojima contrasted that challenge with Physint, which he described as an espionage game he could almost create instinctively. “For example, you have soldiers, you infiltrate, if an enemy spots you, they attack, and you use stealth when taking them out one by one… no matter how you look at it, it’s easy and fun to make,” he said. Yet he stressed that relying on those genre conventions is precisely what he hopes to avoid. Physint aims to push the boundary between film and interactive entertainment, incorporating a new gimmick and involving film industry professionals not only in the cast but also within development roles. Kojima mentioned that the themes he plans to explore could become reality sooner than expected due to rapid societal shifts.

During the interview, Kojima also discussed ambitions beyond these two projects. He expressed interest in directing a film or creating an intellectual property originating from one. He referenced his collaboration with Niantic Spatial, pointing toward an era in which entertainment may extend beyond the smartphone screen. Kojima remarked that he prefers to remain hands-on, noting that imagining a leisurely life after developing a major bestseller does not appeal to him, as he values constant creative engagement and collaboration.

OD Knock is the opening episode of OD, an experimental episodic horror project developed with Xbox Game Studios and co-written by Jordan Peele. The title incorporates hyper-realistic presentation and cloud-powered design elements, though it currently has no confirmed release window. Physint, meanwhile, stands as Kojima’s next large-scale espionage title, described as a career culmination and a spiritual successor to the creator’s earlier work, with no expected release before the end of the decade.
