Wildlight Entertainment has announced that Highguard will permanently shut down on March 12, 2026, bringing the free-to-play PvP raid shooter to an end less than two months after launch.
In a message shared with players, the studio said, “Today we’re sharing difficult news. We have made the decision to permanently shut down Highguard on March 12.” Servers will remain online until that date, giving the community a short window to return for final matches.
Reflecting on the game’s short lifespan, the team added, “Since launch, more than 2 million players stepped into Highguard’s world. You shared feedback, created content, and many believed in what we were building. For that, we are deeply grateful.” Despite that milestone, the developer acknowledged it was unable to establish a sustainable player base. “Despite the passion and hard work of our team, we have not been able to build a sustainable player base to support the game long term.”
Before servers go offline, Wildlight plans to release one final update. “The team is excited to release one final game update to enjoy in the remaining life of the game. We’ll be adding a new Warden, a new weapon, account level progression, and skill trees! Full patch notes are coming, and we’re targeting tonight or tomorrow morning for patch release.”
Highguard launched on January 26, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. Built in Unreal Engine 5, the game featured three-player squads competing to secure an artifact known as the Shieldbreaker in order to breach enemy bases. Developed by a studio founded by former Apex Legends and Titanfall veterans, the project positioned itself as a blend of hero shooter mechanics and raid-style objectives.
“From all of us at Wildlight, thank you for playing, for supporting us, and for being part of Highguard’s story,” the studio concluded.
