After years of anticipation, Hollow Knight: Silksong will finally be playable to the public at Gamescom 2025. Nintendo Germany has confirmed that the long-awaited sequel by Team Cherry will be showcased at Nintendo’s booth, running on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 hardware. This marks a major milestone for the Metroidvania title, which has seen extended development and few public updates since its initial announcement.

Silksong will be one of several high-profile games featured as part of Nintendo’s Switch 2 demo lineup at Gamescom, which takes place from August 20 to 24 in Cologne, Germany. Other confirmed playable titles at the booth include Metroid Prime 4, Pokemon Legends Z-A, Hades II, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Mario Kart World, Super Mario Party Jamboree + Jamboree TV, Borderlands 4, EA Sports FC 26, and Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition.

This list is significant as several of the listed games—such as Elden Ring, Metroid Prime 4, and Final Fantasy VII Remake—have not yet been shown running on Switch 2. Their inclusion suggests Nintendo intends to position the hardware as a platform capable of handling complex, technically demanding titles.

In addition to the Nintendo showcase, Hollow Knight: Silksong will also be playable at the Xbox booth. As previously confirmed through an official Xbox Wire post, Silksong will be featured among more than 20 titles available to demo on PC and handheld platforms such as the ROG Ally X. Xbox’s booth will also include titles like Ninja Gaiden 4, Grounded 2, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, with Silksong being one of the most eagerly awaited among them.

Developed by Australian indie studio Team Cherry, Hollow Knight: Silksong is a standalone sequel to the 2017 hit Hollow Knight. Originally intended as downloadable content, the project grew in scope and became a full sequel, introducing Hornet as the protagonist. The game explores the new kingdom of Pharloom and promises expanded combat mechanics, a quest system, and a significantly larger world.

Silksong currently doesn’t have a release date. It will be available across various platforms, including Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles. With public demos now confirmed, fans may finally get the hands-on experience they have been waiting for.
