After years of anticipation and near radio silence, Hollow Knight: Silksong will finally be playable to the public at Gamescom 2025. Confirmed via an official post on the Xbox Wire blog, Team Cherry’s long-awaited sequel will be featured at the Xbox booth, giving attendees a chance to try it firsthand on PC or through the ROG Ally handhelds.
Xbox’s presence at Gamescom 2025, which takes place in Cologne, Germany from August 20 to 24, will feature over 20 titles from both its first-party lineup and third-party partners. According to Maxi Graeff, Gaming Marketing Lead for Xbox DACH, the booth will provide hands-on opportunities for numerous upcoming titles, including Silksong, Ninja Gaiden 4, Grounded 2, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. The inclusion of Hollow Knight: Silksong marks the first public demo for the game since its announcement, offering fans a long-awaited glimpse into the sequel’s gameplay.
Xbox will also showcase its partnership with ASUS through the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, two new handheld devices that will be used to demo select titles on the show floor. These devices will host playable versions of Hollow Knight: Silksong, Roblox, Sea of Thieves, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4.
Beyond Silksong, the booth will also feature hands-on sessions for major upcoming games such as Borderlands 4, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Onimusha: Way of The Sword, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, and Final Fantasy XVI. A special theater presentation will be held for The Outer Worlds 2, showcasing a new area called the Tomb of the Matriarch. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will also present new content, and Age of Empires fans can look forward to updates for both Age of Empires and Age of Mythology: Retold.
For those unable to attend in person, Xbox will host two live broadcasts from the Gamescom show floor. The first stream airs on Wednesday, August 20 and will focus on the ROG Xbox Ally handhelds, Grounded 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, and others. The second stream on Thursday, August 21 will highlight Ninja Gaiden 4, The Outer Worlds 2, and Overwatch 2. These broadcasts will be available in multiple languages and accessible through Xbox’s official channels on YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook.
This marks a significant moment for Hollow Knight: Silksong, a game that has been subject to numerous delays and limited public updates since its reveal. While a release date has yet to be confirmed, its inclusion in Xbox’s major showcase suggests the title may finally be nearing completion.
