Hollow Knight Silksong Devs Already Planning DLC and Post-Launch Content

After years of anticipation, Hollow Knight: Silksong is finally set to release on September 4, 2025, but Team Cherry is already looking beyond launch. In a recent interview with Bloomberg, developers Ari Gibson and William Pellen revealed that they are preparing ambitious post-launch content, including potential DLC, updates, and long-term support for the highly anticipated sequel.

Gibson and Pellen expressed genuine excitement not only about shipping the game but also about continuing to expand it in the months and years to come. Despite working on Silksong for nearly seven years, the developers showed no signs of burnout, stating that they still enjoy working on the project.

“Launching it is obviously quite exciting,” Pellen said. “What comes after for us is equally as exciting.” Gibson added, “The most interesting thing now is what can we add to it next. We got a plan. Admittedly, some of the plans for that stuff are kind of ambitious as well, but hopefully we can achieve some of it.”

In the same interview, the duo also discussed why the sequel took so long to complete. Contrary to speculation about setbacks, they emphasized that development never stalled. The lengthy timeline was instead the result of the game’s growing scope and the studio’s small size. Gibson explained, “It was never stuck or anything. It was always progressing. It’s just the case that we’re a small team, and games take a lot of time.” Both developers described the process as joyful, noting that new ideas often expanded the project beyond its original scale.

Hollow Knight: Silksong will release on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2. It will also be available on day one through Xbox Game Pass.
