The wait for Hollow Knight: Silksong continues, though fans now have a clearer picture of what to expect this week. According to Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, Team Cherry’s long-awaited sequel will not reveal its release date during Gamescom Opening Night Live. Despite earlier speculation fueled by event host Geoff Keighley, Schreier clarified that no such news will arrive during the showcase.
Instead, Schreier noted that a special announcement is planned for Thursday, August 21, at 10:30 a.m. ET. He added that he will also publish a story that explores why Silksong has taken seven years to develop, giving players a behind-the-scenes look into the game’s prolonged production. This extra context could provide insight into one of the most anticipated indie titles of the decade.
While the release date remains uncertain, fans still have something to look forward to at Gamescom 2025. Nintendo Germany has confirmed that Hollow Knight: Silksong will be playable at the Nintendo Switch 2 booth, marking the first time the public can experience the game firsthand. It will also be available at Xbox’s booth, with demos running on PC and ROG Ally handhelds. The demo’s presence at both platforms underscores the game’s wide reach, with planned releases on PC, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation, and Xbox.
The Gamescom showing is a milestone for Silksong, which has largely remained in the shadows since its initial reveal. Joining a packed lineup that includes Metroid Prime 4, Pokémon Legends Z-A, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, and Final Fantasy VII Remake, Silksong’s long-awaited demo offers a rare chance for attendees to test its combat and exploration before release.
Although players must wait a little longer for a concrete launch date, the upcoming announcement from Team Cherry may finally give them reason to feel optimistic about the finish line being in sight. For now, the Gamescom demo is shaping up to be the best glimpse yet of Hollow Knight: Silksong’s intricate world and refined gameplay.
