Kwalee and developer Hyperstrange have released a free update for Hordes of Hunger, the roguelite action game currently in Early Access on PC via Steam. The update, titled “Reaper,” introduces a new arena, additional weapon variants, and a boss encounter.
The new arena, Temple, is set atop cliffs once home to an ancient sanctuary that has since fallen into the hands of a cult. Within this environment, players will face fresh quests and a new boss known as The Beast. Emerging from the sea, The Beast brings with it an affliction that devastates the surrounding land, adding another layer of challenge to the survival-based gameplay.
Alongside the new location and boss fight, the update introduces several weapon variants. These include Enchanted, Flawless, Godly, Jinxed, Kings, Massive, and Spellbound, each offering distinct effects that can alter combat strategy. The update also contains adjustments to existing gameplay systems and a set of bug fixes intended to improve stability and performance.
Hordes of Hunger places players in the role of Mirah, tasked with fighting back waves of monsters in a series of arenas. Each run allows for character progression through new abilities, weapons, and story missions. The Early Access title combines hack-and-slash combat with roguelite progression and emphasizes replayability through varied builds and quests.
The game remains in active development, with the Reaper Update marking the latest in a series of content expansions designed to broaden both narrative and mechanical depth.
