Guerrilla Games has announced that Horizon Zero Dawn has now sold 20 million copies making it one of the most successful new IPs for Sony.
This milestone was announced just ahead of the launch of Horizon Forbidden West. The game selling 20 million copies was possible thanks in part to the PC version as well as the Complete Edition re-release on PS4. The game also received a free PS5 update that added support for 60 FPS.
The official image shared by Guerrilla Games has confirmed that this sales update applies as of Nov 28, 2021. It is possible that the game has experienced a surge in sales before the launch of the sequel so it could be higher.
Horizon Zero Dawn is one of the rare IPs from Sony to have achieved 20 million copies sold milestone. Other games that have achieved this feat include The Last of Us (PS3 and PS4), God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Uncharted 4. The most impressive number here is for Marvel’s Spider-Man, which took the least amount of time to achieve this milestone.
Horizon Zero Dawn was first released for the PS4 in 2016, and PC in 2021. It uses the Decima Engine of Guerrilla Games which has been used in other games like Death Stranding on PC. It is now getting a successor in the form of Horizon Forbidden West which is due out on February 18, 2022.
