How To Remap The Nintendo Switch 2 Controller’s Controversial C Button For Improved Control Options

by Muhammad Ali Bari

Here’s how you can remap the right Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con’s controversial C button for improved control options.

Before the Nintendo Switch 2 even hit shelves, many players dismissed its C button outright as a being pointless once it was revealed that it was intended for online chat functions. Potential owners of the console argued that they’d never use it. It has now been discovered (thanks, Reset Era member Mandos) that, thanks to the robust accessibility options built into the console’s operating system, players can fully remap the C button to a variety of other functions, turning what was seen as useless into a useful extra control option.

How to Remap the Nintendo Switch 2 C Button

Follow the simple and easy steps outlined below to remap the Nintendo Switch 2 C button to the functionality of your choice.

  • head to the Settings menu and navigate to the Accessibility section
  • choose Button Mapping, and you’ll see a list of your connected controllers
  • select the controller you want to configure (this applies to both Joy-Cons and the Pro Controller)
  • once selected, find the C button in the layout and assign it to another function of your choice

Alternate uses for the console‘s C button include using it as a stick press or the Capture button.  Those who have no need for the button can set it as an alternative Home button to reduce the chances of accidentally hitting the C button to bring up chat features instead of the actual Home button during gameplay.

Access to an extra button that can be fully remapped is a welcome feature that will allow players to make the most of a feature that was previously seen as pointless. It’s worth pointing out, however, that the button mapping feature is currently available only for Joy-Cons and the Pro Controller. NSO controllers, including retro-style options like the GameCube controller, were not remappable on the original Switch and, as of now, remain non-remappable on the Switch 2.
