Nintendo eShop has revealed that Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment will require a hefty 44.9 GB of storage on the Switch 2, making it by far the largest entry in the Zelda-themed spin-off series. For comparison, Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition occupied 12.9 GB, while Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity was just 11.1 GB. The difference places the newest installment at nearly three times the size of its predecessors.
Developed by Koei Tecmo’s AAA Games Studio and published by Nintendo, Age of Imprisonment takes place during the Imprisoning War, a conflict briefly referenced in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The hack-and-slash game continues the formula of combining large-scale Dynasty Warriors-style combat with the characters and lore of Nintendo’s most celebrated fantasy series.
Players will step into the roles of Princess Zelda, King Rauru, and other notable figures to battle Ganondorf’s invasion of ancient Hyrule. This time, the gameplay expands with Zonai Devices and brand-new heroes joining the familiar cast. Cooperative play also receives an upgrade, allowing for split-screen action on one system or GameShare across two consoles. Amiibo support returns, offering special items when figures are scanned, and save data from Tears of the Kingdom or Age of Calamity unlocks exclusive bonus weapons.
The expanded file size suggests that Nintendo and Koei Tecmo are packing in far more content than before, possibly reflecting higher-quality assets designed for the Switch 2 hardware. With new mechanics, large-scale battles, and its connection to the events of Tears of the Kingdom, this installment appears positioned as the most ambitious Warriors crossover yet.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment launches worldwide on November 6, 2025, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2.
