Insider Claims Next God of War Game Stars Faye, Targets 2027 Release

New details have surfaced regarding the next God of War game, with insider NateTheHate claiming the project will center on Faye and introduce a gameplay shift compared to the Norse saga.

Posting on X, NateTheHate stated, “Yes, the game is set within the God of War universe & the lead character will be Faye. Gameplay is said to differ from the Norse God of War games with more of a focus on action.” He added that the current plan is for a reveal later this year, followed by a release in the first half of 2027, “barring any delay.”

The report aligns with earlier indications that Santa Monica Studio is developing a new project within the God of War universe. A LinkedIn profile belonging to a senior writer at the studio previously mentioned work on “a new franchise within the God of War universe,” including the development of characters, storylines, and original lore expanding the intellectual property. The writer served at Sony Interactive Entertainment from August 2020 to September 2025 and contributed to long-term narrative and franchise strategy.

Additional discussion on the Reset Era forums suggested the project may lean toward action RPG territory. Leaker Ashhong responded to speculation about the genre by clarifying, “Yall it’s not a CRPG. Let’s be real.” When another user pointed out that he had not ruled out the broader RPG label, the insider replied with a suggestive emoji. In a prior post from October 2025, the same source claimed that God of War 2018 director Cory Barlog is “making an action game,” further fueling assumptions about the project’s direction.

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier also commented in the same discussion thread, writing, “I suppose now it’s become obvious what I meant by ‘not a new IP but it might feel like one.’” His remark appeared to reference earlier hints about a project connected to an existing franchise that would nonetheless feel distinct.

Sony has yet to formally announce the title. As with all insider reports, the information remains unofficial until confirmed by Santa Monica Studio or Sony Interactive Entertainment.
