A new series of leaks shared by industry insider AestheticGamer, also known as Dusk Golem, has shed light on several cancelled Resident Evil projects, including a scrapped Revelations title focused on Rebecca Chambers. The posts also firmly state that a Resident Evil 5 remake is not currently in development, countering recent fan speculation around the franchise’s future direction.
According to Dusk Golem, multiple Resident Evil projects were explored internally between 2012 and 2014 before being cancelled or reworked. In a detailed thread on X, he explained, “Sure. So back in 2012-2014 there was development on several Resident Evil projects that never came to be.” One of these was a planned story DLC for Resident Evil 6, set after the main game’s events, starring Claire Redfield and Moira Burton working with TerraSave in the ruins of Tall Oaks following its destruction.
He added that the DLC featured forests on the outskirts of Tall Oaks and mutated zombie variants but was eventually scrapped. Dusk Golem stated the project was cancelled because of Resident Evil 6’s reception, explaining it was dropped after the game “undershot its sales goal by a huge margin,” with ideas later retooled into a standalone project.
Another cancelled concept was a Western-focused title codenamed Biohazard Z, which starred Barry Burton and was inspired by survival trends. Dusk Golem noted it “was only in pre-production for 4-6 months” and mostly existed as concept art and early modeling. Elements from this project, including Barry’s backpack design, were later reused in Resident Evil Revelations 2. He also described an experimental open world Resident Evil concept set on a Russian island, featuring survival mechanics such as hunting, hunger systems, and a day and night cycle, which was also scrapped.
Dusk Golem further outlined multiple cancelled versions of Resident Evil 7, including one starring Leon and Sherry set in a floating Italian city with water based enemies and weapons, which had a 40 to 60 minute demo completed before cancellation. Another version reportedly set in Brazil was also abandoned as Capcom shifted toward the final version of Resident Evil 7.
Addressing more recent developments, Dusk Golem confirmed that a Revelations 3 project starring Rebecca Chambers was cancelled in 2022. He suggested that some ideas from this project may have been reworked into later titles, though he emphasized this was speculation. “I have no solid proof they’re connected, so take it with a grain of salt as my own speculation,” he stated.
Finally, Dusk Golem addressed ongoing remake rumors, stating clearly that “RE5 Remake is not greenlit at all, & right now doesn’t have any real momentum in the company at present.” He added that Code Veronica and Resident Evil Zero remakes are the projects currently in active development, both greenlit in 2022, with Code Veronica expected to release first.
While much of the information remains unofficial, the detailed nature of the leaks provides a rare glimpse into the numerous paths Capcom explored before settling on the Resident Evil lineup fans know today.
