Industry insider AestheticGamer, better known as Dusk Golem, has revealed that Capcom made multiple attempts to remake Dino Crisis over the past decade, though none advanced beyond the prototype stage. His comments arrive just as new trademark activity has reignited speculation about a possible revival of the long-dormant survival horror series.
Responding to a fan on social media, Dusk Golem stated that Capcom Vancouver worked on one such project before the studio was shut down. A second attempt was made several years later, but it was ultimately canceled as development failed to meet expectations. “There has been a couple attempts in the last decade to remake Dino Crisis,” he said, adding that he still has some leaked materials from the first effort. Despite these setbacks, he expressed optimism that Capcom will eventually figure out the right direction for the franchise.
The revelation comes on the heels of a newly discovered trademark filing in Brazil, which has fueled speculation that the company may be preparing a revival. Submitted on July 3, 2025, with a follow-up on August 12 currently under review, the registration falls under the entertainment class covering video games. While trademark renewals are not unusual, the timing of this filing, alongside merchandise campaigns and renewed branding efforts, has led many fans to believe that Capcom may be actively reconsidering the future of the series.
Originally created by Shinji Mikami, Dino Crisis launched in 1999 as a survival horror game that replaced zombies with predatory dinosaurs. It was well-received for its tense atmosphere and unique spin on the formula, going on to sell 4.5 million units worldwide across the franchise. Despite its strong start, the series has been dormant since Dino Crisis 3 released in 2003.
Capcom has recently found success reviving other classic properties, most notably with its Resident Evil remakes. This track record has given fans reason to remain hopeful that Dino Crisis may one day receive similar treatment. For now, however, the franchise’s future remains uncertain, with past attempts highlighting just how difficult it has been for the publisher to bring the prehistoric horror back to life.
