A new wave of information from trusted Resident Evil insider AestheticGamer, also known as Dusk Golem, has shed light on Capcom’s long-term plans for the franchise, including fresh gameplay and story details for the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem and confirmation of two remakes in development. Speaking via multiple posts on Twitter/X, the leaker outlined the next phase of the series, which appears to be heading toward major narrative closure for one of its most enduring storylines.
According to the insider, Resident Evil Requiem will introduce open-level areas with vehicles for navigation, possibly including a motorbike, as well as significant upgrades to Leon S. Kennedy’s combat system. Dusk Golem compared these combat refinements to certain elements seen in The Last of Us Part II, while also noting that Capcom has worked to ensure smooth performance in the game’s expansive environments. The story will place Leon alongside newcomer Grace Ashcroft, an FBI agent investigating mysterious events in Raccoon City, and will serve as the final numbered entry in the series. This installment is positioned as a definitive conclusion to Umbrella’s legacy and the narrative threads stretching back to Resident Evil Zero.
Story spoilers shared by Dusk Golem indicate that Grace’s mother, Alyssa, will be revealed early on as the game’s primary stalker-type enemy. Grace’s blood will play a central role in the plot, and the game will emphasize strong connections to Umbrella’s history. Once this chapter closes, Capcom reportedly plans to shift away from requiring future installments to tie into existing lore, opening the door for new characters, settings, and timelines. The publisher also intends to move away from setting each game in the same year as its release, allowing for greater flexibility during development.
In addition to Requiem, the insider revealed that Capcom is developing remakes of Resident Evil: Code Veronica and Resident Evil Zero, expected to be released between 2027 and 2028. Development on the Zero remake reportedly underwent a reboot in late 2024, though the scale of these changes is still unclear. Looking further ahead, a new mainline big-budget Resident Evil game—distinct from remakes or spin-offs—is being targeted for a 2029 or 2030 release.
Dusk Golem also revisited past projects, noting that the cliffhanger endings of Resident Evil 3 Remake and Resident Evil Village were originally intended to connect to a now-cancelled multiplayer-focused Resident Evil 9, set in Singapore. He further mentioned that an early live-action film concept titled Umbrella Chronicles has since evolved into a separate production under director Zach Cregger.
Resident Evil Requiem was announced at Summer Game Fest 2025 and is set to launch on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Capcom will showcase the game during Gamescom Opening Night on August 19, with a press embargo lifting on August 20, and further presentations planned for Tokyo Game Show in September.
