Insider Reveals Scrapped Resident Evil 9 Plans, Umbrella Chronicles Film Shift, and Requiem Details

by Salal Awan

Known Resident Evil insider AestheticGamer, better known as Dusk Golem, has shared new insights into both the past and future of Capcom’s survival horror franchise. Speaking on Twitter/X, the leaker revealed that the cliffhanger endings of Resident Evil 3 Remake and Resident Evil Village were originally designed to set up a now-cancelled version of Resident Evil 9. This scrapped iteration was reportedly a multiplayer-focused title in development in Singapore.

According to Dusk Golem, the scene showing Jill Valentine retrieving a vial at the end of Resident Evil 3 Remake, as well as the BSAA soldier reveal at the conclusion of Village, were intended to connect to this project. He pointed out that the series has a long history of unresolved cliffhangers, citing examples such as Jake’s tease in Resident Evil 6 and Natalia Wesker’s final moments in Revelations 2, many of which have either been abandoned or significantly altered during development.

The insider also addressed past rumors surrounding a live-action Resident Evil film known internally as Umbrella Chronicles. He stated that this earlier concept was abandoned, with the project evolving into a new version under filmmaker Zach Cregger’s direction.

Turning to upcoming releases, Dusk Golem reaffirmed that Resident Evil Requiem—announced at Summer Game Fest 2025—is expected to mark the last major appearance of Leon S. Kennedy in the series timeline, though the character may still feature in future CG films and earlier-era stories. Leon will share the spotlight with new protagonist Grace Ashcroft, an FBI agent investigating mysterious deaths at a hotel. Both characters will play significant roles, though the game is positioned as a send-off for Leon.

Capcom plans to showcase Requiem at Gamescom Opening Night on August 19, followed by a press embargo lifting on August 20. The title will also appear at Tokyo Game Show next month. Resident Evil Requiem is set for release on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
