Insider Says Resident Evil Requiem Game Length Estimate Is Not Accurate

by Salal Awan

Recent claims circulating online about the estimated length of Resident Evil Requiem are not accurate, according to well-known Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem. The insider, who was among the first to leak information on several past Resident Evil projects and previously revealed Leon S. Kennedy’s involvement in Requiem, has cautioned that current playtime figures are creating misleading expectations.

Posting on X under the handle AestheticGamer, Dusk Golem addressed the rumors directly, stating, “There’s Resident Evil Requiem playtime claims floating around — They’re not true, they’re skewing info to come to a conclusion that’s setting up the wrong expectation & not based off of any official information.” He emphasized that none of the widely shared estimates are grounded in confirmed data from Capcom.

According to Dusk Golem, comments from Capcom’s development team have been selectively interpreted. He explained that the producer has described the game as being “roughly” the length of Resident Evil 4, but noted that this was not intended as a precise comparison. He added, “The producer claims the game is ‘roughly’ the length of RE:4, though the director stepped in to say that estimating game time is hard, so to just expect a ‘Resident Evil’ amount of content.”

Beyond official remarks, Dusk Golem shared his own understanding of the game’s scope. “Separately, I’ve heard myself it’s longer than Village, but a bit shorter than RE:4,” he said, framing this as informal insight rather than a definitive measure. He also pointed out that hands-on preview impressions may have added to the confusion, stating, “During hands-on previews a couple weeks back, two outlets said it’d roughly be 15 hours, though unclear if they heard that or their own assumption.”

He further stressed that Resident Evil playtimes have historically varied significantly between players. “RE9 playtimes I expect will greatly vary anyways, lots of gameplay options, we’ll have actual reports on playtime very soon,” Dusk Golem noted. Responding to comments about differing completion times for past entries, he added, “Yup, RE playtimes already vary a great deal between people that a one-size fits all answer is pretty much nonsense, an average playtime is worth more.”

In the same discussion, Dusk Golem also touched on the review timeline for the game. When asked about review copies, he confirmed, “Review copies send out this week.” While he said he did not yet know the exact embargo date, he speculated, “My guess right now, but just a guess, would likely be the 24th.”

Resident Evil Requiem is the ninth mainline entry in Capcom’s survival horror franchise and is directed by Koshi Nakanishi. Built on the RE Engine, the game follows FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft and veteran agent Leon S. Kennedy as they investigate a new biological outbreak in the ruins of Raccoon City, set 30 years after its destruction. The game features a dual-protagonist structure, optional first-person and third-person perspectives, and a mix of resource-driven survival horror and cinematic action.

Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled to launch on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows, and Nintendo Switch 2. With reviews expected soon, clearer and more consistent playtime information is likely to emerge closer to release.
