Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet To Feature Horror Elements

Sony Interactive Entertainment and Naughty Dog’s upcoming action-adventure game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, will feature horror elements.

Illustrator and story artist Colin Lorimer recently took to Instagram to talk about Naughty Dog’s next project. He commented on the use of a track from The Pet Shop Boys in the game’s announcement trailer, and how, in his view, perhaps going with Beastie Boys would have been a little too on the nose.

Further in his post, Lorimer revealed that he worked on the initial board pitch for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet with the game’s co-director, Neil Druckmann, and a bunch of talented Naughty Dog artists back in the year 2023. He added that the announcement trailer, which was revealed at The Game Awards 2024, is a great tease for what’s to come and that he can’t wait to see how it all comes together.

Lormier proceed to add several hashtags to his post, one of which is “#horror”, suggesting that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will feature horror elements and themes in some shape or form. Additionally, concept artist Tye Martinez had mentioned on Twitter/X that he can’t wait to share something he put some of his “brain” into. Martinez is a self-taught artist with more than 10 years of experience, and he specializes in horror and suspense concept work, which further confirms that the game will feature some prominent horror themes. His work can be seen on his Instagram profile.

During a recent interview, co-director Neil Druckmann had stated that Intergalactic takes inspiration from classic anime like the 1988 movie Akira and the 1990s series Cowboy Bebop. Regarding the game’s story, he said that it deals with a fictitious religion and the consequences of putting one’s faith in different institutions. It is set in an alternate timeline, where space travel has advanced considerably by the year 1986.
