inZOI Update v0.4.0 — Halloween Seasonal Events, Ghost Play, Mentality System Overhaul, and Major Gameplay Improvements

Version 0.4.0 for inZOI introduces a comprehensive Halloween seasonal update that adds pumpkin farming, jack-o’-lantern carving, trick-or-treat events, five new ghost fish, and the ability to continue playing as a ghost for a limited period after death. The update also adds funeral-related properties, new pumpkin-based recipes, new Halloween cosmetics and building items, and a range of themed activities and rewards tied to seasonal events.

Beyond seasonal content, the patch implements a major systems overhaul: the mentality system is unified to incorporate traits, characteristics, ambitions, and urges; the in-game day length is rebalanced to 48 minutes by default; numerous interaction, simulation, UI, modding, and build-mode features have been added or improved; and a large number of gameplay, animation, and stability bugs have been fixed.

Halloween seasonal content

  • Pumpkin Farming: new crop with purchase/growing options and three recipes — Pumpkin Soup, Pumpkin Pie, Pumpkin Candy.
  • Jack-o’-Lanterns: pumpkins can be carved at crafting tables; jack-o’-lanterns usable as headgear and decorations.
  • Trick or Treat events: place Halloween items on property to trigger nightly visits from children; give candy to receive Halloween rewards.
  • Ghost Fish: five new ghost fish spawn at night (6:00 PM–6:00 AM) during Halloween season.
  • Play as Ghosts: option “On to the Afterlife” allows play as a ghost for three in-game days; ghosts can unlock special skills by fulfilling urges related to cause of death; Claire at the AR Library offers ghost missions; “Continue” forces ghosts to ascend and restores Claire relationship to default.
  • Funeral system: new Funeral Home & Columbarium and Cemetery properties; urns generated for Zois who die after this update; “Make Event” for funerals and “Enshrine Deceased” interaction to place urns in cemetery.

Day cycle and mentality overhaul

  • 48-minute default day cycle implemented; balance adjustments to needs, interactions, naps, and meal timing.
  • Option to revert to 96-minute days: Game Options > Simulation > Day Length.
  • Mentality system unified: traits, characteristics, ambitions, and urges integrated for richer personalities.
    • Traits: some existing traits merged/removed; three new traits added: Troublemaker, Recluse, Rulebreaker.
    • Characteristics: 15 new characteristics added; each Zoi may have up to two non-conflicting characteristics.
    • Ambitions: no longer assigned randomly; players choose ambitions at Zoi creation; NPC ambitions align with traits.
    • Urges: more contextually driven; over 140 new urges added and 120 urges reworked.

Social, interaction and simulation additions

  • New social events and visits: ten new social events (blind dates, group studies, fitness clubs).
  • New burglar break-in event added.
  • Family interactions expanded: newborn/toddler interactions (Give Formula, Give Snack, Do Baby Stretches), child-specific interactions (Reprimand).
  • New NPC occupational conversations (massage therapists, bank financial advisors, yoga instructors).
  • Living arrangement conversations: Ask Them to Live with You and Suggest Living Separately.
  • Comfort and Soothe interactions to relieve Sad or Enraged states; success chance depends on Rhetoric level.
  • Teen romance cooperative interactions and related unique interactions added.
  • Break Off Engagement interaction added to Smartphone menu.
  • Cooperative interactions added: Play Bowling and Play Billiards Together; new interactive motions.

Gameplay and autonomy improvements

  • Autonomous meal behavior: Zois now cook a random available recipe when satisfying hunger; microwaves allow instant quick meals.
  • Autonomous computer usage reduced to reasonable durations.
  • Zois can act while swimming and maintain conversations during group activities.
  • Multiple parcel open and sale improvements for bag and inventory; items can be selected and sold without removal from bag.
  • Emergency Rescue usable when riding in boats and cars.
  • Improvements to fishing/mining tool selection and held item interactions.
  • Skip to Schedule Event Location feature added (toggle in Game Options > Gameplay).
  • Non-player property Build Mode shortcuts added.
  • Vehicle improvements: color preview on selection and age requirement message for purchases.
  • Ownership changes: property ownership auto-updates when Zois move out, die, or household status changes; stands and crops assigned to families; food ownership removed.
  • Swimming pools no longer enterable/exitable via WASD.

City, property, and content updates

  • New properties and public objects added across Dowon, Bliss Bay, and Cahaya: Funeral Home & Columbarium, Cemetery, Beach Club, Wedding Studio, pool tables, bowling lanes, drinking fountains, fitness equipment, parasols, lifeguard stands, trash cans.
  • Residential and preset property updates; some doors replaced with new double-door models; dishwashers added/repositioned.
  • Reduced probability of death from natural disasters and temperature changes.
  • Slight increase to initial move-in funds for new games.
  • Photo Mode app added to smartphone.

Character customization and new items

  • 100 new items added including face presets, hair, eyebrows, facial features, 44 makeup items, 37 accessories.
  • 38 new unlockable Halloween items and 58 new unlockable building Halloween items obtainable through events.
  • Makeup Presets feature: save presets via Face – Makeup – Makeup Presets.
  • New motions for CAZ & Photo Mode and new Halloween-themed studio background.
  • Randomizers for all customization categories; Edit Appearance HUD button added.
  • My Texture improvements: only shows textures created on current device.

Building and build-mode features

  • 120 new building items added across categories.
  • New double door category and about 30 special effects items (fire, smoke, lightning) added; special effects customizable (color, material).
  • Smart Snap: press [X] while placing an item to snap to nearby objects.
  • AI Build (experimental): automatic building generation by specifying rooms and description; hardware and property limitations apply (NVIDIA RTX 3000+ 8 GB VRAM or AMD RX 6000+ 12 GB VRAM recommended; excludes exterior elements and public/themed properties).
  • Roof overlap support; build-mode UI improvements and wall guideline toggles.

UI, UX and control changes

  • Overhead role icons for social events, jobs, and visitors.
  • Urges HUD redesign for visibility.
  • Budget app shows family total assets.
  • Social Event icon balloon removed to reflect varied event types.
  • Deliver Goods pop-ups show item names and thumbnails.
  • Driving: speedometer added.

  • New cheats: setTrait for editing traits/characteristics; ShowUserDevCategory to reveal DEV building items; addItemToBag for pumpkin items; AddResortCoin for Resort Coins.
  • Mod improvements: CAZ wizard for hair/skin, building wizards for doors/fences/pillars/windows, opacity settings, localization support for translation mods, translation wizard, automatic mod installation for CurseForge subscriptions, improved local mod detection, ModKit UE5 tutorials and QoL features, automatic download of mods used in Canvas creations.

Canvas and community features

  • New Canvas makeup category and Halloween-themed event page.
  • Canvas posts display mod information; recommended creations appear at bottom of details page.
  • Link previews in comments and result counts for searches/filters.

Audio and music

  • Updated lobby music for Halloween and AI-generated Halloween music for speaker objects.
  • Support added for high-sampling-rate audio devices.

Graphics and performance

  • Overall graphics performance optimizations for frame rate and load speed.
  • PSO cache fixes, optimized material options, Nanite options added and auto-disabled for low-end GPUs.

Compatibility and save notes

  • Some crowd body type updates apply only to new games.
  • When continuing with existing saves, removed traits are auto-replaced and two characteristics are randomly assigned; cheats available to manually adjust.
  • Property updates can be applied to continued games via the property update feature; residential properties remain unchanged.

inZOI is developed by inZOI Studio and published by Krafton. The game launched in Early Access for Windows (PC) on March 28, 2025, and in Early Access for macOS on August 20, 2025. A console release for PlayStation 5 is expected later in 2025.
