James Gunn Shares Update on Superman Sequel Man of Tomorrow and Peacemaker Season 2

James Gunn has shared new details about the future of the DC Universe, covering both the upcoming Superman sequel and the highly anticipated second season of Peacemaker. Speaking in a Q&A session on his Threads account, Gunn confirmed that the Superman follow up will officially be titled Man of Tomorrow and also provided fresh insights into how Peacemaker is evolving in its next chapter.

When asked about the new Superman project, Gunn clarified that the correct title is simply Man of Tomorrow, not Superman: Man of Tomorrow. He emphasized that Superman holds a symbolic role in the DC Universe, saying, “He’s our MGM Lion.” Gunn also noted that he often shares his scripts with a wide range of colleagues to gather feedback, adding, “I’m very open to feedback always.” The sequel, set to release on July 9, 2027, will once again star David Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, with Gunn returning as both writer and director. The film is expected to deepen the conflict between Superman and Luthor, with concept art suggesting that Hoult’s villain may confront the hero in a mech suit.

Turning to Peacemaker, Gunn explained the shift in narrative focus between the two seasons. “S1 is becoming aware of your demons. S2 is actively dealing with them,” he said. This continuation, according to Gunn, tackles the processing of childhood trauma, a theme that will be explored through Chris Smith’s ongoing struggles. Episodes six and eight were singled out as particularly ambitious, with Gunn describing them as “wild, emotional and unlike anything I’ve ever done.” He went further, calling a scene near the end of episode eight his “absolute favorite most joyful day on set” in his career.

Gunn also touched on the improvisational energy that has defined parts of Peacemaker. The rooftop dance sequences, for example, were largely unscripted. “Totally improvised except I gave a little guidance to how PM and Ads danced together and that Adrian was doing his famous butt dance,” Gunn revealed. Production for the second season also recreated Peacemaker’s childhood home despite shooting in a new location, ensuring continuity for viewers.

Beyond Superman and Peacemaker, Gunn gave fans a glimpse into other elements of the DC Universe. ARGUS, the shadowy government organization, has shifted its mission from uniting superheroes to keeping them in check, focusing on “monitoring and sometimes policing metahuman, paranormal, and occult activity.” Gunn confirmed that The Question is available for use in the DCU, describing the character as “one of my faves.” He also hinted at Barbara Gordon’s appearance in Brave and the Bold, though it remains unclear whether she will appear as Batgirl or Oracle.
