Warhorse Studios and Deep Silver have released a free next-generation update for Kingdom Come Deliverance on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, and early comparisons suggest the improvements are substantial. A new PS4 versus PS5 comparison video highlights sweeping visual upgrades alongside major performance enhancements, marking one of the most significant free console updates in recent memory.

The enhanced version is available today as a free download for existing PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners. The update arrives as part of anniversary celebrations for the franchise, giving players an opportunity to revisit the medieval role-playing experience with modernized performance and presentation.

According to the comparison, virtually all visual aspects of the game have been upgraded. Textures appear sharper, lighting has been reworked, environmental geometry has been refined, and draw distance has been noticeably extended. The graphical difference between the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions is described as dramatic, with the updated edition delivering a far more detailed and immersive version of Bohemia.

Performance has also seen a marked improvement. The PlayStation 5 version supports gameplay at up to 60 FPS, resulting in smoother combat sequences and more responsive traversal across the open world. The next-generation edition additionally includes an option to enable or disable certain high-definition textures, allowing players to prioritize stable performance if desired.

Load times have been significantly reduced as well. Based on testing shown in the comparison, loading is approximately four times faster on PlayStation 5 compared to PlayStation 4. This reduction meaningfully decreases downtime between gameplay segments and enhances overall pacing.

Kingdom Come Deliverance originally launched in February 2018 and distinguished itself through a commitment to historical accuracy and realism. Set in the early fifteenth-century Kingdom of Bohemia, the game follows Henry, a blacksmith’s son navigating a civil war within the Holy Roman Empire.

With this free next-generation update, Warhorse Studios has substantially refreshed the title without additional cost to existing players. The scale of improvements positions the update as a notable example of post-launch support extending well beyond the game’s original release cycle.
