Kingdom Hearts Remake and Kingdom Hearts 4 Could Launch in 2027, It Is Claimed

A new leak claims that Square Enix is planning to release both a Kingdom Hearts remake project and Kingdom Hearts 4 in 2027, according to information shared by insider eXtas1s. While the source cautions that the information should be treated carefully, the leaker states that the details come from an internal source and are supported by internal materials and images that cannot be publicly shown.

According to eXtas1s, Square Enix is currently developing a major Kingdom Hearts project centered on a full remake of the original Kingdom Hearts. The remake is reportedly titled Kingdom Hearts Relux and is described as more than a simple HD remaster. Instead, it is said to be a ground-up remake using modernized assets while preserving the original game’s visual identity.

The leaker claims that Kingdom Hearts Relux originated as a mobile Kingdom Hearts project that was later canceled. Square Enix allegedly repurposed assets from that project, including world and character models, and shifted development toward a console remake. Development is said to be handled by Tose Software rather than Square Enix’s Osaka team, which previously worked on Kingdom Hearts 3. Tose has previously contributed to projects such as Dragon Quest Treasures and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion, which is cited as a visual reference point for the remake.

Visually, the game is expected to retain a colorful, anime-inspired aesthetic rather than pursuing the more realistic presentation seen in Kingdom Hearts 3 or the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 4. Maps and overall structure are said to remain largely faithful to the original release, with improvements such as modern lighting, higher-quality textures, and updated assets.

The soundtrack is reportedly being reworked, including a new version of the main theme. This version is said to feature Hikaru Utada alongside another well-known English-speaking singer.

Gameplay changes are described as meaningful but respectful to the original design. The leak claims that a restored Disney world, The Jungle Book, will be included. This world reportedly existed in the original Kingdom Hearts code but was cut due to time constraints. Some existing worlds, including Traverse Town, are said to receive expanded areas. A new encounter involving Setzer from Final Fantasy VI and Riku is also mentioned.

One of the most significant reported additions is a playable Riku. Players would experience sections of the game from Riku’s perspective, showing what he was doing during moments when Sora was absent. This partial campaign has been a long-standing fan request.

Originally, Kingdom Hearts Relux was allegedly planned as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive. Square Enix has since shifted to a full multiplatform approach, targeting PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. This change is said to have complicated development and contributed to delays.

The initial target for Kingdom Hearts Relux was reportedly 2026, but current projections range from late 2026 to spring 2027. Kingdom Hearts 4 is claimed to be scheduled for winter 2027. While launching both titles in the same year would be unusual, the leak suggests it is possible, particularly since Relux is considered a smaller-scale project. The timing could also coincide with the franchise’s 25th anniversary.
