A recent rumor suggesting that Square Enix is developing a Kingdom Hearts remake set to release before Kingdom Hearts 4 has been publicly dismissed by multiple industry insiders, who have described the claim as false. The responses directly challenge earlier reports that pointed to a full remake of the original Kingdom Hearts currently in development.
The rumor initially claimed that Square Enix was working on a project titled Kingdom Hearts Relux, described as a ground-up remake rather than a standard HD remaster. According to those claims, the project allegedly reused assets from a canceled mobile Kingdom Hearts game and was being developed by Tose Software instead of Square Enix’s Osaka team. The same report suggested that the remake could launch in 2027, potentially alongside Kingdom Hearts 4.
However, several well-known industry figures have since pushed back strongly against these assertions. Alex Donaldson, Editor-in-Chief of RPG Site, responded to the rumor in a discussion thread on ResetEra with a blunt dismissal. Posting under the handle APZonerunner, Donaldson wrote, “Load of bollocks.” The comment was made directly in response to discussion surrounding the alleged Kingdom Hearts remake.
NateTheHate, another prominent insider, echoed this sentiment in a response shared on X. When asked about the Kingdom Hearts remake rumors, he stated, “I’ve seen the rumors; but I’ve also seen notable insiders say it is fake.” His comment further reinforced the position that the information circulating about the remake is not credible.
These responses stand in contrast to the earlier leak, which claimed that internal materials and images existed to support the Kingdom Hearts Relux project, though none were publicly shown. The leaker behind those claims acknowledged a mixed track record but pointed to previous accurate leaks as justification for credibility. Despite that, the direct rebuttals from multiple established insiders have cast significant doubt on the report.
At present, Square Enix has not made any official announcements regarding a Kingdom Hearts remake or a project titled Kingdom Hearts Relux. The only confirmed major entry in development remains Kingdom Hearts 4, which has yet to receive a finalized release window.
