Kingdom Hearts Remake Rumors Are Reportedly Fake

Rumors regarding the existence of a remake of Square Enix’s 2002 action role-playing game, Kingdom Hearts, are reportedly fake.

In his new video, content creator TheGamersJoint shared his findings regarding rumors surrounding a Kingdom Hearts remake that emerged earlier this month, according to which they are almost certainly fake. The rumors gained traction within the series’ community after alleged screenshots of a project known as Kingdom Hearts Relux project were shared with leaker Extas1s. It was said to feature major changes, including the addition of The Jungle Book world and possible story rewrites.

Seeking clarification, TheGamersJoint reached out directly to Extas1s. After a week without a reply, and after other insiders like Nate the Hate publicly dismissed the rumor, the leaker eventually shared three screenshots (see DaniAgudoDA‘s Twitter/X post below) privately with the content creator. Upon reviewing them, several red flags became apparent. For starters, the logo used the newer Kingdom Hearts IV font instead of the classic series font associated with the original Dark Seeker Saga. Secondly, one screenshot showed protagonist Sora standing in Traverse Town, but the environment appeared nearly identical to the PlayStation 2 version, with the lighting seemingly added in post-production.

Furthermore, the HUD displayed a rectangular HP/MP bar instead of the iconic circular design, and Sora’s portrait appeared to be lifted directly from his render in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The camp menu used Sora’s Kingdom Hearts III model with little to no modification. Extas1s also claimed to have seen video footage, but no such footage was provided to TheGamersJoint. Based on these inconsistencies, he concluded the leak was almost certainly fabricated, likely created using Photoshop, modded assets, or even generative AI tools.

Earlier, when asked about the Kingdom Hearts remake rumors, known insider NateTheHate stated, “I’ve seen the rumors; but I’ve also seen notable insiders say it is fake.”
