Death Stranding 2: On the Beach director Hideo Kojima has expressed his happiness over the game’s critics scores and overall reception.

During the Death Stranding World Strand Tour 2 (via godofallthings) event in London, UK, host Geoff Keighley asked game director Hideo Kojima to share his feelings about the game’s release. In response, he said that he’s glad that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was positively evaluated by critics, and that he is happy with the review scores as well as his fans playing the game.

Kojima was also asked if there’s anything that has surprised him in terms of what players have liked, to which he said that he put many Easter eggs in there, but he was disappointed to see it all get revealed on social media right away. He noted that it hasn’t even been a week since the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach released. He also partly blamed himself for spreading the Easter eggs, as he’s been retweeting social media posts showing them off.

Later in the panel, Kojima was joined by Norman Reedus, who plays the role of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach protagonist Sam Porter Bridges, and Léa Seydoux, who plays Fragile. Seydoux revealed that the game has been in development for nearly 8 years. Reedus expressed his excitement over all the positive feedback it has received since release.

Regarding its critical reception, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has already earned its place among the PlayStation 5’s top-rated exclusives, according to its Metacritic score. The sequel to Hideo Kojima’s unique action-adventure title stands shoulder to shoulder with some of the platform’s most critically acclaimed releases. The game currently ranks as the sixth highest-rated game on PS5 when considering all major titles available on the platform, including multi-platform releases that also appear on PC. This places it alongside critically acclaimed cross-platform games like God of War: Ragnarok and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
