Kojima Productions Shares First Look at OD, Built With Unreal Engine 5

by Ali Haider

Kojima Productions has officially revealed the first look at its upcoming horror project OD during the studio’s 10th anniversary event. Directed, written, and produced by Hideo Kojima, the game is being built on Unreal Engine 5 and will utilize advanced tools such as Metahuman to deliver lifelike character models and highly detailed facial expressions.

The debut teaser trailer set a chilling tone, showing a figure moving through an apartment before stopping beside a desk adorned with candles and a drawing of an eye. As the character lights the candles, the scene grows increasingly disturbing. Some of the candles take on grotesque shapes resembling babies or human figures. At one point, a baby-shaped candle melts into a stream of blood-like wax, just before the protagonist is attacked by an unseen entity from behind.

The surreal presentation has sparked speculation that OD may draw from the loop-based gameplay structure once explored in Kojima’s short-lived but influential PT project. Kojima had previously collaborated with horror manga artist Junji Ito for PT, and fans are already speculating that a similar partnership may be in place for this new title.

While precise details remain scarce, Kojima Productions confirmed that OD will be published by Xbox Game Studios. The project is also notable for its high-profile cast, featuring Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier. Academy Award-winning filmmaker Jordan Peele is collaborating on the project as well, further cementing its position as one of the most anticipated horror releases in recent years.

Although no release date has been confirmed, OD marks Kojima Productions’ latest push into psychological horror, with its haunting teaser already stirring both excitement and unease among fans. More information is expected to be shared in the coming months.
