Hideo Kojima has revealed that Kojima Productions’ action espionage game, PHYSINT, will be a part of the studio’s ‘phase 2’.

During the latest episode of the Koji Pro radio broadcast (via Genki_JPN), Hideo Kojima shared that, once work on Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and OD is complete, Kojima Productions will enter its ‘phase 2’ with PHYSINT. He also said that the action-espionage game aims to transcend the barriers between film and video games. Additionally, he revealed that he will also work on an anime as part of phase 2 of Kojima Productions.

Going by his statement, it appears that the project is in a very early conceptual phase at this point in time. As such, PHYSINT will likely be developed for the next generation PlayStation hardware.

Hideo Kojima fans need not be disappointed, however. The game director’s upcoming title, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, is less than three months away from launch. During the same radio broadcast, he also shared that development of the upcoming action-adventure game is now 95 percent complete. Kojima’s exact words were, “It’s at about 95% now… It feels like it is 10 o’clock (PM), speaking of 24 hours, Koji Pro’s DS2 is at 10 o’clock (PM), there are 2 hours left.”

As for OD, not much is known about the game besides the idea that it will be just as “experimental” as Kojima’s 2003 action adventure role-playing game, Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand. The game director has been acknowledged for creating games that go against the current of the times, such as “hide-and-seek” games where the player sneaks into a building without being detected by the enemy, or “delivery games” where the player enjoys moving around in an open world. For him, however, the most experimental game was “defeating vampires outside your house” using actual sunlight around you, pointing towards a gameplay mechanic featured in Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand. Back when was working on the game, the idea was met with fierce opposition from the development team, and even from people within the company. In that sense, he said that OD is just as different.
