Konami Producers Address Possibility of Metal Gear Solid 4 Returning in Future Releases

by Ali Haider

During a recent roundtable interview attended by games journalist Destin Legarie, Konami producers Noriaki Okamura and Yuji Korekado were asked about the possibility of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots returning on modern platforms. While the question was raised in the context of future Metal Gear developments and the upcoming Master Collection Volume 2, the producers did not provide a definitive answer.

When asked if the title might appear in future collections or projects, the developers acknowledged the strong demand from fans. One of the producers responded, “We naturally understand that everyone wants to play it – it’s a game that currently can’t be played. In future Metal Gear developments, we hope we can prepare an opportunity for everyone to play 4, for current people to have a chance to play it. We can’t specifically talk about when that will be here yet, but…” A translator further clarified, “We do want to add some point that fans have chance to play it again. Unfortunately, we can’t give you any more details about that, but yeah, we hope in the future is something we can do.”

Originally released in 2008 for the PlayStation 3, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots remains one of the few entries in the franchise that has not been reissued on later hardware. Directed by Hideo Kojima, the title concluded Solid Snake’s story with a mission to stop Liquid Ocelot and the Sons of the Patriots system.

The game went on to become one of the most celebrated releases of its era, contributing to a significant rise in PlayStation 3 sales and eventually selling six million copies worldwide. Despite its importance, the game remains locked to its original platform, leaving fans hopeful that Konami may eventually bring it to a wider audience.
