Kratos voice actor Christopher Judge has endorsed the character’s casting in the upcoming God of War TV show.
Speaking at the Fan Expo (via event held in New Orleans, LA, Christopher Judge, the voice actor behind Kratos in the new God of War series, shared his thoughts on actor Ryan Hurst playing the character in the upcoming Amazon Prime TV show, giving his nod of approval on the casting.
Judge talked about his initial concern regarding the casting, saying that all he wanted for whoever was cast as Kratos was that they “love, cherish, and respect” the character as much as “we all do.” According to him, the show production crew has accomplished this with the casting of Hurst. “It’s a magnificent choice,” he said.
Judge praised Hurst’s acting, referring to him as “not only a great actor, but a great person and a gamer who actually played God of War since its inception.” He gave his kudos to the production crew. “You’ve got a great live-action Kratos. Kill it, Ryan!” he said.
The Amazon Prime God of War series is being produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. Hurst brings prior experience with the franchise to the role, having previously voiced Thor in God of War Ragnarok. His performance in the game earned a BAFTA Award nomination, giving him an established connection to the series world and its characters. The casting positions Hurst as the live-action embodiment of one of gaming’s most recognizable protagonists.
The Prime Video series will closely follow the narrative introduced in the most recent God of War games, focusing on Kratos’ life as both a god and a father. Once a Spartan warrior who struck a disastrous bargain with the Greek god Ares, Kratos has spent years defined by violence, loss, and survival. In the show, his story focuses on his relationship with his ten year old son, Atreus, as the two set out to fulfill a final wish tied to the death of Kratos’ wife, Faye.
