Larian Studios has issued a public statement addressing ongoing discussion around the development of Divinity, its next major role-playing game, and has assured fans that more detailed information will be shared after the holiday period. The response comes one week after the game’s official announcement and follows growing debate around the studio’s development practices.
The message was shared by Larian CEO Swen Vincke. In the statement, Vincke acknowledged that aspects of the Divinity announcement had been misunderstood and emphasized the studio’s long-standing development philosophy. He stated, “It’s been a week since we announced Divinity, our next RPG, and a lot has become lost in translation.”
Vincke reiterated that player choice and developer autonomy remain central to Larian’s identity. “Larian’s DNA is agency. Everything we work towards is to the benefit of our teams, games, and players,” he said, adding that the studio’s goal is to support flexible workflows that allow developers to produce the strongest possible RPGs. He also noted that internal processes are not static, explaining that the studio continually evaluates and adjusts them when they no longer align with its values.
Addressing concerns around technology use, Vincke explained that evaluating new tools is a responsibility rather than a departure from principle. “In that context, it would be irresponsible for us not to evaluate new technologies,” he said. At the same time, he stressed that processes are changed if they prove inefficient or incompatible with the studio’s creative culture, which appears to be the central point he wanted to reinforce.
To provide additional clarity, Larian confirmed plans to host an ask me anything session featuring staff from multiple departments. According to Vincke, “To give you more insight, we’ll do an AMA featuring our different departments after the holiday break, in which you’ll get the opportunity to ask us any questions you have about Divinity and our dev process directly.” He added that the date for the session will be announced in the new year and concluded the message by wishing fans happy holidays.
Divinity is the next turn-based RPG from Larian Studios and marks a return to the studio’s flagship universe following the success of Baldur’s Gate 3. The game was revealed during The Game Awards. Larian has also indicated plans to launch an Early Access version beginning in late 2026.
